JOB DESCRIPTION
Job Title: Governing Board Member
Accountability: Board of Directors
General Function:
To participate as a member of the governing board of directors whose duties are to establish policy and ensure that the organization has sufficient resources to meet the goals and objectives to support the organization’s mission.
BOARD MEMBER QUALIFICATIONS:
Has achieved recognition and status within the community
Is knowledgeable about social concerns of the community
Has the expertise and resources (personal and/or corporate) to apply to the needs of Boys & Girls Club.
KEY ROLES

Trusteeship: Responsible for protecting the mission to ensuring public accountability of the organization

Planning: In partnership with the Executive Director, participate in setting direction for the future

Policy and Evaluation: Develop and evaluate policies that govern the Club’s operations
-
Resource Development: Participate in raising resources and exercise fiduciary oversight for the organization
Duties and Responsibilities:

Ensuring legal and ethical integrity and maintaining accountability
-
Ensuring that high quality professional leadership is employed
-
Complete the orientation session for new board members
-
Serve as an active member of at least one standing committee
-
Serve as advocate and promote the Boys & Girls Club in formal and informal networks

Make an annual financial contribution as specified in the Board member Contract
-
Participate, support and attend fundraising activities of the organization as specified in the Board Member Contract
-
Attend and participate in all board meetings
-
Participate in the development and implementation of the organization’s strategic plan
-
Participate in board leadership and development activities conducted or sponsored by the local organization, Boys & Girls Clubs of America, and community
-
Perform any other duties that may be necessary to carry out the purpose and mission of the organization
